On the Feast of St. Nicholas, the Brothren Presented Gifts to Children

St. Nicholas, whose memory is celebrated on December 19, has been prayerfully interceding before the Lord for travellers, those in need, and those enduring hardships for many centuries. Even nowadays, his help is sought by those who have had to leave their homes, relocate with their families from high-risk areas, and those who care for young children but often lack the means to provide for them.

In anticipation of the Nativity of Christ, the social department of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra extends assistance to people displaced from conflict zones and families in need of support.

With the blessing of the Lavra’s Abbot, metropolitan Pavel, archdeacon Filaret, and the monastery brethren visited families in the Kyiv region who could not treat their children with gifts. Among these families are single-parent households that face challenging circumstances.

All received food, medicine, spiritual literature, and clothing, while the children were especially delighted with toys and school supplies.

Gifts were also given to elderly individuals who fr. Filaret encountered on his way to visit the supported large families. Those who received sweet gift sets were as joyous as children, and everyone found great joy in giving and receiving these offerings “from St. Nicholas” on this day.

The brotherhood of the Lavra’s social department expresses gratitude to all who contribute to the needs of its dependents and wishes everyone the prayerful intercession of St. Nicholas, whose memory is celebrated today.
