Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko stated on the air of the TV marathon that his ministry was planning to start ‘the activity of folk artistic craft and other things’ in the Kyiv Caves Lavra instead of the Monastery. It was informed about by Ukrinform on 22 April 2023, the Information and Education Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church communicates.

Tkachenko admitted that his ministry was only planning to devise a concept of ‘management’ and ‘development’ concerning the territory of the Monastery.

‘We would like to have, by and large, a concept of management and use on the territory of the Lower Lavra. Without a doubt, our life there should continue, but there are some various questions regarding both a convalescent centre for servicemen and the activity of folk artistic craft and other things’, said the minister.

The matter concerns a world spiritual shrine, which is the cradle of monasticism for Orthodox Christians.
