On the night of 15 June 2026, during a massive Russian attack on Kyiv, the Dormition Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra was struck.

According to Kyiv Mayor V. Klitschko, a fire broke out on the roof of the Great Church.

Photographs of the damaged shrine have been published online.

The present-day Dormition Cathedral was gradually rebuilt from its ruins beginning in 1998. On 24 August 2000, the Head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine, consecrated the majestic cathedral.

The brethren of the Lavra ask for prayers for their much-suffering monastery.

Upd. As of 8:30 a.m. on 15 June, the fire had been fully extinguished.
