The measures taken by the Ukrainian authorities against the UOC are included into the list of human rights violations in a report by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights

The government and local authorities of Ukraine took several measures against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. It is said about in a report by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Information and Education Department of the UOC informs.

According to the above report, the measures against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church include, inter alia, the termination by the state of the agreement on lease of the buildings of the Kyiv Caves Lavra.

Moreover, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights documented 10 cases of physical violence and 6 cases of threats on religious grounds.

It is stated in the report that ‘tensions were particularly high in March and April 2023’.

OHCHR also called attention to the persecution of UOC priests on the territories seized by Russia.

In particular, it informs in the report that Russian armed forces detained a UOC priest, whose whereabouts remained unknown as of 31 July 2023.
