Holy Archimandrite of the Lavra consecrated church in honor of venerable Agapitus of the Caves



On the dedication day of saint great martyress Catherine, the great consecration of a new church named after venerable Agapitus, the unmercenary physician, was performed in the Kyiv-Caves Lavra.

The Head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphrius of Kyiv and All Ukraine headed the solemn divine service and thereafter the Divine Liturgy.

His Beatitude was joined by metropolitan Pavel of Vyshgorod and Chornobyl (the Vicegerent of the Kyiv-Caves Lavra), metropolitan Meletius of Chernivtsi and Bukovyna (the Head of the Department for External Church Relations of the UOC), metropolitan Anthony of Boryspil and Brovary (Administrator of the UOC), metropolitan Jonathan of Tulchyn and Bratslav, metropolitan Pitirim of Mykolaiv and Ochakiv, metropolitan Ephraim of Kryvyi Rih and Nikopol, metropolitan Agapetus of Mohyliv-Podilskyi and Sharhorod, metropolitan Nicodemus of Zhytomyr and Novohrad-Volynskyi, metropolitan Panteleimon of Lugansk and Alchevsk, metropolitan Joseph of Romny and Burynskyi, metropolitan Philaret of Lviv and Galych, metropolitan Kliment of Nizhyn and Pryluky, metropolitan Barsanuphius of Vinnytsia and Bar; archbishop Gurias (Kuzmenko), archbishop Panteleimon of Bucha, archbishop Stephan of Gomel and Zhlobin (BOC), archbishop Jonah of Obukhiv, archbishop Damian of Fastiv, archbishop John of Zolotonosha, archbishop Cassian of Ivankiv; bishop Theodosius of Seattle (ROCOR), bishop Dionysius (Konstantinov), bishop Sylvester of Belogorodka (the principal of Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary), bishop Andrew of Petropavlivka, bishop Spyridon of Vyshneve, bishop Laurus of Irpin, bishop Mark of Borodianka, bishop Theodosius of Ladan, brethren and guests of the Monastery in the holy rite hosted by archimandrite Anthony, the Dean of the Monastery.

 During the Small Entrance, sacristan of the Lavra hieromonk Abramius (Lotysh) was elevated to the rank of archimandrite.

After reading the Gospel, the Head of the UOC addressed the parish with an archpastoral speech and narrated about the life and martyrdom of saint great martyress Catherine.

At the end of the Liturgy, the Holy Archimandrite of the Lavra congratulated Metropolitan Pavel and the brethren on the consecration of a beautiful new church in the Lavra, wishing that through the prayers of venerable Agapitus the Lord would give sanity and health to all the praying, enabling to become heirs of the Kingdom of Heaven.

In response, the Vicegerent of the Lavra, His Eminence Pavel, with the appreciation of continual prayers of the Head of the UOC for the Holy Monastery entrusted to His Eminence, recalled that His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphrius had consecrated the tenth church in the Kyiv-Caves Lavra. Thereafter, as a gratitude, the Vicegerent presented a liturgical suite of two panagias and a cross to Metropolitan Onuphrius. At the end of the celebrations, the wardens of the newly consecrated church were awarded, a joint photo was taken in memory of an important event in the Kyiv-Caves Lavra, and the Head of the UOC presented gifts to the children who sang at the service.
