On the memory day of saint God’s prophet Elijah, the Vicegerent of the Holy Dormition Kiev-Caves Lavra, metropolitan Pavel of Vyshgorod and Chornobyl performed the Divine Liturgy in the Holy Elijah Church of Chornobyl city of Kyiv Region. His Grace was co-serviced by metropolitan Nikodym of Zhytomyr and Novohrad-Volynskyi; the Church prior, archimandrite Sergius (Iakushyn), the guests of the Church in the holy rite.

Everyone knows of the Chornobyl disaster of 1986, the most terribletechnogenic catastrophe in the human history. After the disaster, the Church was closed, but since 2001, the divine services have been resumed. It is of high importance to feel support and live prayer experience for those attending the Church in the exclusion zone now.

Upon reading the Gospel, His Grace Pavel turned to the praying with the sermon speech and told about saint prophet Elijah, the wonders he did during his earthly life, how he was miraculously taken on the fiery chariot to the Heaven, and that “till present day he has been the pleader for all us at the Throne of God”.
