002On his Name Day, the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphrius of Kiev and All Ukraine led the Divine Liturgy in the Dormition Cathedral of the Lavra.

The Primate was joined by the permanent members of the Holy Synod of the UOC: metropolitan Agathangelos of Odessa and Ismail, metropolitan Mark of Hust and Vynogradov, metropolitan Hilarion of Donetsk and Mariupol, Head of the Church Court of the UOC metropolitan Theodor of Kamenets-Podolskyi and Horodok, Vicegerent of the Holy Dormition Kiev-Caves Lavra metropolitan Pavel of Vyshgorod and Chornobyl, Head of External Relations of the UOC metropolitan Mitrophan of Luhansk and Alchevsk and the UOC Administrative metropolitan Anthony of Boryspil and Brovary as well as the array of the archpriests, the Lavra clergy and the Monastery guests in the holy rite.

In the evening before, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphrius performed the night vigil in the same church.

Upon reading the Gospel during the Liturgy, the Primate delivered a sermon to the parish and pilgrims in the Lavra, narrating of the life path and acts of venerable Onuphrius the Great, honored on this day, and of the wonders, including those taking place nowadays, which God made in return to the prayers of the venerable. The Primate set the venerable Onuphrius as an example how a man who loves God and prays yields benefit for this world and admitted that a prayer is a God-given virtue to help endure hardships, especially those caused by the evil spirits, and ultimately to help uphold the whole world. Therefore, the memory of venerable Onuphrius, whose prayerful devotedness was hidden from human eyes, is cherished till these days.
