Divine service

Day of Venerable Anthony, who brought monasticism to Rus

000On the memory day of the founder of the Holy Caves monastery, Venerable Anthony of the Caves, the solemn divine services were fulfilled within the walls of the Holy Dormition Kiev-Caves Lavra.

In the evening before, the night vigil in the Great Church was led by the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphrius of Kyiv and All Ukraine. The brotherly service in the Refectory Church of Venerable Anthony and Theodosius of the Caves began with the small vespers, when the Acathistus to the venerable Anthony was read. Later on, the night service followed, headed by the archpriest of the monastery, archimandrite Anthony. The lity during the vespers in the Dormition Cathedral was performed by namesake metropolitan Anthony of Boryspil and Brovary.

The feast of Venerable Anthony is the dedication day for our holy monastery, since one of the Caves’ churches of the Near Caves is consecrated in honor of this Saint and situated not far from the cell of the hermit.

His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphrius led the Divine Liturgy on the square in front of the Dormition Cathedral of the monastery on the very day of the feast. His Beatitude was joined in service by the representatives of the Local Orthodox Churches: metropolitan Timotheus of Bostra (the Jerusalem Orthodox Church), metropolitan Naum of Rousse (the Bulgarian Orthodox Church), metropolitan Isaiah of Tamasos and Orinis (the Cypriot Orthodox Church), metropolitan George of Kitros, Katerini and Platamonas (the Greek Orthodox Church), archbishop George of Wrocław-Szczecin (the Polish Orthodox Church); the permanent members of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, metropolitans: Theodor of Kamianets-Podilskyi and Horodok (Head of the Church Court of the UOC), Pavel of Vyshgorod and Chornobyl (the Vicegerent of the Holy Dormition Kiev-Caves Lavra, Head of the Synod Department for the UOC Monasteries’ Affairs), Mitrophan of Luhansk and Alchevsk (Head of the External Church Affairs Department of the UOC), Anthony of Boryspil and Brovary (Rector of Kyiv theological schools, Administrative Executive of the UOC), the array of the archbishops, the brethren and numerous guests of the Lavra in the holy order.
