Metropolitan Pavel paid a visit to the Republic of Lithuania


With the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine Onuphrius, the Vicegerent of the Kiev-Caves Lavra made a journey to Lithuania.

On January 23, the meeting of Linas Linkevičius, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, and metropolitan Pavel of Vyshgorod and Chornobyl took place in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania in Vilnius.

Also among the participants of the meeting there were Algirdas Kumzha, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Lithuania to Ukraine (YY2006-2009) on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs part, Yevgeny Lavrov, the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Lithuania in Ukraine, Asta Andrijauskiene, Head of the Ukraine and Moldova Division, Eastern Partnership Policy Department.

The wide range of issues was addressed during the conversation. The discussion on a closer cooperation of the Republic of Lithuania and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the cultural sphere has become an important topic of the meeting.

Metropolitan Pavel returned thanks to the Government of Lithuania for the support provided to the faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church who go on pilgrimage to the Republic of Lithuania, and expressed his hope for the further good friendly terms.

Linas Linkevičius on his part expressed deep respect on behalf of President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė to the hierarchs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

At the end of the meeting, which passed in a friendly atmosphere, metropolitan Pavel and Linas Linkevičius exchanged memorable gifts.

On this day, with the blessing of Metropolitan of Lithuania and Vilna (Vilnius) Innokenty, metropolitan Pavel visited famous Christian sanctuaries. His Grace went to see the Holy Spirit Cathedral of the friary (men’s monastery), to honor the relics of the Vilna martyrs Anthony, John and Eustaphius and the cave where they rest in peace till 1997; the Holy Dormition Cathedral of Vilnius; the Church of the Holy Great Martyr Parasceva (by the way, moor Hannibal, the great grandfather of A.S.Pushkin, was baptised in this church), the Church of St. Nicholas of Vilnius with the Michael Chapel; the Church of Sts. Constantine and Michael of Vilnius (constructed in honor of 300th anniversary of the Romanov Royal House).
