Rev. Titus the Warrior (XIV)

Tit voin

“Venerable Titus the Warrior. When his head was wounded in battle, he abandoned the warrior’s path and came to the monastery, where he wept over his sins until his death. And before his repose, it was revealed to him that the Lord God forgave his sins”, an ancient Lavra manuscript published by Bishop Modest states.

According to the same bishop, the inscription on the board that once covered the relics of the ascetic read as follows: “Venerable Titus the Warrior, while at war, suffered an almost fatal head wound, and because of this, he ceased to fight, having lost his former strength. Coming to the Pechersk Monastery, he was received by the venerable fathers who lived there, and he took monastic vows, striving valiantly in fasting and prayer, arming himself against the invisible enemy. By his ceaseless tears, he attained such grace that before his repose, he was granted the revelation of the remission of his sins, and his soul ascended to Heaven, to the triumphant hosts.”

He is first mentioned on the maps of the Far Caves from the year 1661.

The memory of this holy ascetic is commemorated separately on February 27 (Old Style), on the feast day of Venerable Titus, who rests in the Near Caves.
