On the memory day of Nestor the Chronicler, the Primate of the UOC led the celebrations in the Lavra

The heavenly protector of Kyiv theological schools, venerable Nestor the Chronicler is known by his holiness and scholarism far beyond the walls of the Lavra throughout the centuries.

The venerable is considered to be the spiritual guide not only by the Lavra inhabitants, the teachers and students of Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary, but also historians, journalists and all whose work is one or another way related to information flows. This most important sphere of civil activity demands special knowledge, objectiveness and impartiality, which the venerable possessed to the full.

On the eve of the feast, special divine services devoted to venerable Nestor the Chronicler, Nestor the Illiterate and all the saints honored by Kyiv theological schools were performed in the churches of the Lavra. After the prayer service behind the holy relics of venerable Nestor the Chronicler , the night vigil was led by His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphrius of Kyiv and All Ukraine in the Great Church of the Lavra, joined in service by the array of the archpriests and churchmen. During the services, the student of Kyiv Theological Academy, Vladimir Kliuiko, turned to numerous students and pilgrims with the sermon speech, and described the virtues of venerable Nestor.

On the very day of the festivities, the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church performed the Divine Liturgy in the Dormition Cathedral. His Beatitude was joined in service by the Vicegerent of the Kiev-Caves Lavra, metropolitan Pavel of Vyshgorod and Chornobil, metropolitan Panteleimon of Veroia and Naousa (the Greek Orthodox Church); metropolitan Anthony of Boryspil and Brovary, rector of Kyiv Theological Schools and the administrative executive of the UOC affairs; metropolitan Ambrosius of Chernihiv and Novgorod-Siversk, metropolitan Joasaph of Kirovograd and Novomyrgorod; archbishop Ambrosius of Peterhof, rector of Saint Petersburg Theological Academy and Seminary; archbishop Panteleimon of Rovenky and Sverdlovsk, archbishop Nikodym of Severodonetsk and Starobilsk, archbishop Theodosius of Boyarka; archbishop Kliment of Irpen, Head of the UOC Educational Committee; bishop Barsanuphius of Borodianka, bishop Alexis of Voznesensk and Pervomaisk, bishop Benjamin of Novi Sanzhary, bishop Victor of Baryshivka as well as teachers, graduates, students and guests of Kyiv Theological Schools in the holy rite.
