The Lavra church situated on the square of the Far Caves bears the name of the Conception of the Most Holy Virgin Mary by Righteous Anna. It was here, almost a thousand years ago, that the ancient monastic community first took shape. Following the reopening of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra in 1988, the Church of the Conception became one of the few Lavra buildings returned to the Church.

Beginning in 2002, through the labours of the Abbot of the Caves Monastery, Metropolitan Pavel, together with the brethren, restoration works were undertaken to restore the church to its former splendour. In December 2008 these labours were crowned with the solemn consecration of the church. During 2009–2010 the interior frescoes were completed. In October 2010 the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine, performed the consecration of the renewed church, which once again received the faithful beneath its sacred vaults.

From the very first divine services celebrated in this place, the revival of the holy Lavra began, and the Feast of the Conception of the Most Holy Theotokos is always celebrated with particular solemnity in Her house, in the capital city of Kyiv.

On the eve of the feast, a vigil service with litia was celebrated in the Church of Saint Agapitus of the Caves, and on the feast day itself, an early Divine Liturgy was traditionally celebrated in the Church of the Conception.
